Lunchtimes at Burstow are an extremely important part of the school day and we have worked hard to improve them based on the children’s feedback. There are three sittings which are staggered to allow children to develop confidence and independence; Nursery and Reception eat first, followed by Years 1, 2 and 3 and then Years 4, 5 and 6. The children experience a family style meal where the food is on the table, as they are led into the hall by their Teacher, and served by the older children.
All of our food is cooked on site by our dedicated catering team and the menu is reviewed termly after consultation with pupils. The school council are involved in tasting new recipes for the menu which they love!
Encouraging children to be grateful and have good table manners is very important as are social skills and collaboration. By working as a team and having nurturing staff who know the children well, strong relationships are formed during lunchtime and children are able to thrive in a happy, safe environment.
