Burstow School’s admission policy for 3 year olds is to admit children into the Nursery at the beginning of the term after their third birthday. The children attend school part-time, morning or afternoon sessions.
Attending Burstow School’s Nursery class does not guarantee a place in the Reception year of the school. For admission to the Reception year, parents must apply to Surrey County Council for a place at Burstow:
The Surrey County Council leaflet is sent out by the school to parents who have completed our own admission form. Mrs Austin, in the school office, is our admissions officer who can help with any queries on 01342 842010.
The school sets an admission number that takes into consideration present accommodation, class sizes and budgetary implications. If the number of applications exceeds the admission number, the following criteria will be applied in this priority order:
1. Looked-after children
2. Exceptional arrangements
3. Brothers and sisters (siblings)
4. Children for whom the school is the nearest to their home
5. Any other applicant
If the school is oversubscribed we compile a waiting list and as spaces become available we admit pupils by considering all applications on the waiting list using these priority criteria.
At Burstow we invite all the pupils who will be starting in a particular academic year to attend school from the beginning of September. Pupils whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and 31st August will attend full time, however, full time attendance at school is not statutory until after the child is five.
New children, and their parents, are invited to visit the school and to spend an afternoon in school during the term preceding their arrival. We offer parents the opportunity of a home visit by a reception class teacher. These visits enable pupils and staff to get to know each other in familiar surroundings. Reception pupils have a phased start to the academic year to aid the settling process.
Our Prospective Parent Open Mornings are held in November.
Children can start at Burstow School's Pre-School the term after they turn 3.
